Easy Napkin Fold For A Dinner Party

I am always looking for different ways to fold napkins and set a table.  I love how people are letting the napkins hang down - so easy and so pretty.  Especially when you want to add a pop of color.

There is actually a whole website dedicated to this called www.napkinfolding.com!  I do think some of the traditional folds are a bit fussy.



Like this...wow!  Certainly would make for a conversation starter!  What is this exactly?  And what do you do with the little cup when you put your napkins in you lap?

 

I tend to lean to more simple designs.  I was out to dinner last night and thought the way the restaurant folded our napkins and placed the utensils was simple and easy.  I might try it for my next gathering!

 

Basically they folded the napkin in a square and then placed the utensils on top over your small plate.

Theresa and I are styling a wedding in Manhattan so we have been thinking of napkin folds.  Do you have a favorite fold?  Did something work well for your wedding?  Please share!

Dollar Store Tiered Dessert Stand

At Hollins' birthday party, the girls will decorate cupcakes with candies to look like flowers.  The other crafts are fabric covered bulletin boards with felt flower pins.  It is going to be great!
We wanted to display the cupcakes on something cute in the middle of my sisters dining room table.  The original idea was to use boxes with ribbon.  But I thought that creating something a little bit more permanent might be a better option in the long run.  So I created this sweet cupcake stand from plates and candle sticks from the dollar store.

Here are the supplies I started with.  2 dinner plates, a dessert plate and 2 candlesticks all from the dollar store.  It cost me $5 because I had the brushes and paint on hand.

First I painted the flower underneath the plate.

Then I added some border paint.

I went over it lightly with the pale pink paint once the white was dry.

I used tacky glue on the candle stick to adhere it to the plate.

And here is the finished product.  I like the whitewashed look.

Very easy to make and will be great at lots of events!

Going Away Party

Our good friends Nick and Natalie sold their house and are making the move to Asheville.  We are sad to see them go but so excited for them to start this new chapter in their life. 

Of course this was the perfect opportunity for a party!  My friend Theresa and I styled the going away gathering that my friend Bryn and her husband Matt hosted.  It turned out so cute that I wanted to share the pics with you.  It was a simple cookout but we added some special touches to it.  Thanks to my sweet husband for taking the photos! 

The colors were yellow, white and gray.  I picked up these flowers at the farmers market and put together these arrangements.

Theresa created this great farewell montage that we framed in a simple wooden frame.

Theresa also created this sweet banner that we hung in the breakfast room area of Bryn's house.

 Another fun thing we did is to have each guest complete a mad lib for Nick and Natalie.  They filled in their favorite memory, fun time and what they will miss most about having them here in Charlotte.

I wrapped a few of the vases with coordinating paper, ribbon and raffia. 

These coordinating pom poms and the chevron runner were the perfect details for this party.

Theresa and I made a great team.  The pom poms and runner she had on hand.  She created the banner and mad-libs game.  The day of the party I created the centerpieces and set everything up with Bryn's help.
